What's Coming In 2017?: A Look-Forward
Jimmy Musto

With 2016 winding down and the new year approaching fast, I wanted to take some time to look forward to what is in store in the next 52-week cycle of the calendar. First off, let’s start with the films I am mostly excited to see in 2017 (courtesy of IMDB):

  • "The Lego Batman Movie": Feb 10th
  • "The Great Wall": Feb 17th
  • "The X-Men: Logan": March 3rd
  • "Beauty and the Beast": March 17th
  • "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2": May 5th
  • "Wonder Woman": June 2nd
  • "Despicable Me 3": June 30th
  • "Spider-Man Homecoming": July 7th
  • "Thor Rangnarok": Nov 3rd
  • " Star Wars Episode VIII": Dec 15th

Next are the shows I am excited about (courtesy of MetaCritic):

  • The final season of "Bones": Jan 3rd
  • "Full Frontal with Samantha Bee": Jan 11th
  • Season 12 od "Supernatural": Jan 26th
  • Puppy Bowl and the Super Bowl (if the Seahawks are in it): Feb 5th
  • "The Walking Dead": Feb 12th

That is all that is available for the time being. But still an exciting winter/spring lineup nonetheless.

And finally, video games expected in 2017 (courtesy of Trusted Reviews):

  • Tom Clancy’s "Ghost Recon Wildlands": March 7th
  • "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild": March 2017
  • "Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy": 2017
  • "Red Dead Redemption 2": Fall 2017 ("Red Dead Redemption" is a personal favorite. Once I saw it make it on that list, I was ready to flip the calendar to 2017.)

Now, at this point, you may be asking, 'does this guy ever go outside?' Well, when you live in the Pacific Northwest, there is a bounty of things to do and a lot of fun things to partake in during the year.

  • Spokane has Bloomsday on May 7th, and Hoopfest on June 24th and 25th.
  • I highly recommend taking a ferry to one of the San Juan Islands during the springtime and watching the flowers bloom. There is also the Skagit County Tulip Festival in April.
  • A personal favorite of mine is the beginning of the baseball season for the Mariners in April, as well.

So, as we close the door on the year 2016, I propose a look-forward as to what next year has in store for you. What excites you most about 2017? I know that I am ready to move on to this year and can’t wait to be excited for a new beginning. Who knows how 2017 will pan out -- but hey, there is a list above to make the year a pretty fun one already. Feel free to leave comments below as to what excites you most about 2017 and why you are looking forward it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
