I've been to over a dozen concerts and seen over 60 performers in the last twelve months, but I have never had the opportunity to stage dive. Most of the time, there is a barricade with security guards that you crowd surf to. Getting on stage is impossible.
That is, unless you're at a super small venue
like the Soundbar in Orlando. The room can only fit 350 people, making for an intimate show between attendees and performers. I was fortunate enough to see Grayscale's first headlining show there on September 7th.
I did not get "barricade" as I like to call it.
I had a legitimate front row spot. My hands were on the stage and I even was able to sit and chill on stage between bands. During the opening acts, brave concert-goers were crowd surfing to the front, jumping on stage, then stage diving off. It looked like so much fun.
I got the courage to jump up on stage,
chanting a few lyrics, then jump into the sea of people. The second of air-time before I was caught by the careful crowd was incredible. Adrenaline soared through me. The crowd caught me and carried me for a few seconds.
It was the best ten seconds of my life.
The crowd will always catch you. Even if they don't, the people will break your fall. If you ever get the opportunity to stage dive, DO IT!
