What Is Love? | The Odyssey Online

When you look up the definition of love you get three answers. 1: an intense feeling of deep affection, 2: a person or thing that one loves and 3: (in tennis) a score of zero. Now some of society also has a deeper definition of love that kind of requires a mature mind to really understand, it comes from 1 Corinthians 13:4, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." In my opinion, that is basically it, that definition says it all. There are also different ways to say "I love you". There is "I love you", "love you", "love ya" and the best one "luv u". Some people describe love through an example. I'm sure you can come up with more than a million examples of love.

If we are describing love through examples, to me, love is praying for someone else, love is having compassion for someone else, even if they are a stranger. Love is not being selfish or greedy. To me love is when someone is thinking about you. Love is when someone says "How are you?", "Be careful", "I can't wait to see you" or "I'm here for you". Love is when you give someone your last slice of pizza. Love is a warm, homey feeling, whether it is with a person or a moment. You can be yourself, silly or serious. It is when someone gives you their last piece of gum in class, that requires a special bond. Love is when you drop everything you are doing to help or go see someone. Love is a baby's laugh and smile. Love does not have to be between a couple. It is friendship, a family, it is between parents and their children. Love can even be between two strangers that show each other a simple act of kindness. You can fall in love, you can fall out of it, it can even blind you in good or bad ways. Some hate the idea of falling in love and some adore it. Love is a special feeling.

What does the word love mean to you? What is your definition of love?

"Love means having someone to count on. Count on supporting each other in good times and bad. Count on one of you picking up wine when the other has a very hard day...or a really good one. Count on telling the truth even though feelings may be hurt. Count on a kiss in the morning, and a kiss at night. But most importantly, count on each other to make memories, make each other laugh and love one another to the fullest." - from a wife

"Love is hugs and kisses from mommy and daddy, if someone falls you help them up, treating my friends like family and letting them ride my bikes." - from a 6 year old

"Love to me is dying to self. It's putting others needs before yours. It's realizing how small we are and how utterly dependent we are on our Father God. It's accepting that the challenges that come our way are allowed to help us grow in holiness. Love is...it never was...it's a constant." - from a grandmother

"Love is sacrifice. Putting someone else and their needs before your own." - from a young dad

"Love is contentment. When you look at someone or something and feel content, in the sense that you wouldn't want anything more in that very moment. An overwhelming bliss." - from a college friend

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
