What Your Profile Picture Says About Your Personality

What does your selfie say about who you are?

What Your Profile Picture Says About Your Personality

Studies have shown that your profile picture is a direct depiction of your personality. Here are the ten most common profile pictures and what they could say about your personality - based off my psychological expertise and 400 years of research, of course. (insert wink-y face emoji here)

1. The selfie

Lets be real, you’re probably just a bit narcissistic- everyone is, in varying degrees. You think you look better in pictures when you take it yourself and throw on a couple of filters. If it’s a serious selfie, you probably like people to think you’re mysterious, but in reality you’re probably self-aware, and a very emotional person. If it’s a smiling selfie, you’re probably pretty normal or you like people to think that you’re pretty normal.

2. The cool travel picture

You’ve probably considered yourself diagnosed with “serious wanderlust”. You enjoy learning new things, meeting new people, and you have quite a bit of an adventurous spirit. Wow, you’re so young and carefree! You’d much rather be basking under the Australian sun or climbing onto the back of animals somewhere in the African desert. You like to make other people jealous, and the truth is, it’s probably working.

3. The blurry, cropped picture

You don’t really understand what constitutes a proper profile picture. You’ve taken a random picture that someone took of you where you look decently decent, and cropped it so that it’s only your face. You don’t really care about anything social media related, and you only have this account because your friend or your Mom forced you to.

4. The picture that is not you

It’s either one of two things. It may be that you don’t take life too seriously and you enjoy confusing people, or you are the same person from #3 and you still don’t understand what constitutes a proper profile picture so you’ve opted for something random. Basically, you’re way too hipster for Facebook. If it’s a pop culture reference, you’re probably one of those people who spend way too much time on Netflix and can recite every episode of some show by memory. #loser #just kidding

5. The picture of you laughing

Wow, you’re so cool and carefree! Your personality depends on how this picture was taken. If it was a genuine “Kodak moment”, then you’re a pretty decent person with a decent sense of humor. If it was posed, then you’re probably the type of person who cares a lot about what other people think.

6. The picture of you hanging out with friends

You are either popular or want to be popular, or you want people to think that you’re popular. Or, you have friends and you really love them.

7. The picture of you hanging out with friends but you’ve cropped everyone else out

You are a completely horrible person. Just kidding. You don’t really care about popularity; you just couldn’t find a good picture of yourself without other people in it.

8. The picture of you and your significant other

You believe that your significant other is the most important person in your life, and if they have made it to your profile picture, you probably think that they’re “the one." It’s a pretty big deal. You’ve already planned out your life with them and you know exactly how many kids you’re going to have, where you’re going to live, and you have either a binder or a Pinterest board entitled “Wedding Stuff."

9. The baby picture

You had a pretty good childhood, and you miss it. You probably still have your old blankie or stuffed animal, and sleep with it tucked under your pillow every night to protect you from the monsters in your closet. You secretly still watch shows like Cyberchase and Arthur, have seen and loved Teen Beach Movie 2, and you enjoy eating Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops, and/or Captain Crunch for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

10. The animal picture

It’s either that you think animals are better than people and/or are an animal behavior major, or you are a “like” seeker with the knowledge that any picture of an animal on the internet instantly get hundreds of likes. So basically, you’re either a genuinely nice person or an extremely crap person.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
