What Your Parents Never Told You About Having A Little Sister
Amanda Poussard

I have personally been living with a little sister for 15 years. Make that 16, actually. Anyways, it's enough to know what living with a sister is like and to know that mom and dad neglected to tell me a lot about living with a sister. Both of my parents grew up with older sisters, but never did they experience a younger one. Let me tell you, this is a whole different experience.

1. She constantly asks for your clothes.

However, most of the time her clothes do not fit you. So technically she has two closets and you have one. And even worse is the fact that they never come back in the same condition that you gave them to her. There is always a stain or rip or missing button that happened to mysteriously show up after she’s worn something. Or you will find a Facebook picture with her wearing your clothes without having ever asked.

2. She gets to ride on your coattails.

You have paved the way for her. She learned to read because you taught her. She is liked by teachers because you were their student too. There was a lot of work you had to do yourself and she gets to bask in the glory of your hard work.

3. You fight about absolutely everything.

Who got more food? Who gets more money from mom and dad? Everything is a competition and neither one of you will ever back down.

4. She will want to tag along all the time.

Since you were little, your sister has followed you. She's hung out with you and your friends when she was too young to make her own and now that she's made her own she still does. And dates? Don’t worry, she will still ask to come.

5. You're best friends one minute and enemies the next.

And you never know which you are.

6. She will be your biggest fan.

She will be dragged to all of your sporting events, your award ceremonies, college visits and all of your activities until she can stay home alone. And then when she is old enough to stay home she doesn’t because she actually may enjoy going.

7. She will be your best friend.

My parents may have told me this one, but I never believed it for a long time. But it is true, you will someday be best friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
