What Your New Year’s Eve Plans Say About You

There’s something strange about New Year’s Eve. It’s one of very few holidays that always happens to hit us fast with our deepest desires, and ignite our sparks for life, which is probably why end-of-the-year plans are so crucial.

Whether you’re looking for a special way to bring in the new year, or just want to make a few more memories before pushing out the old one, this year’s New Year’s Eve plans sure do have a way of telling us who we are, and who we’re going to want to be in 2017.

If you’re headed to a house party:

You are insanely happy with where you're at and grateful for the people in your life right now. It probably wasn’t a year of many firsts, but it also wasn’t a year of many lasts. And even though you don’t seem all that different, your mental, emotional and psychological "glowup" has been way too real.

Next year, you just want to keep the momentum going, and what better way to usher that attitude in than with a night surrounded by both old friends and new faces?

If you’re celebrating in the city:

This year has been a total “year of yes” for you. You’ve taken risks in a way you never have before, and aside from that one time you experimented with the faux freckle trend, you’ve pretty much reaped the reward.

In turning a new leaf, you just want to take advantage of your newfound courage this holiday and into 2017. You have no idea who you'll be by the end of the year, but that’s the fun of it.

If you’re doing it up as a duo:

This year has been HECTIC, full of ups and downs and all arounds. But whether you were enduring a tribulation or savoring a celebration , these past 12 months have taught you what the most important things in life are. This year, there’s nothing you’d rather do than spend time with that one special someone, who calms you down and keeps you on the straight and narrow.

Maybe it’s a brother, maybe it’s a mother, maybe it’s a friend, maybe it’s a beau. No matter what, familiarity is something you cherish and strengthening relationships you already have is your main goal.

If you’re staying home alone:

Hailee Steinfeld spoke to your soul this year. For the first time in a long time, you seriously love yourself and know you don’t need anyone else. This year came with some major battles, but it also made you rise up on your own two feet and get your life together: no prince charming, magic lamp or grade curve in sight.

You may not have gotten everything you wanted, but you sure got everything you needed, and now it’s time to celebrate those achievements with a party of one. Congratulations, you’ve finally got the hang of this thing called life.

Happy New Year’s, Terps! 2016 has been an interesting 365 days to say the least. But if we can get through “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the flower crown filter and an election from hell all in one year, we can get through anything.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
