I know TV shows are meant to entertain us and give friends something to talk about the day after watching an episode. But what a person likes to watch definitely says a lot about his or her personality. It explains the actions and interests behind people.
For example, my favorite TV show that reflects my personality is the NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation." Now you're probably wondering why this mockumentary of a comedy show says anything about a boring, skinny college student. It actually says so much. Watching it shows that I'm a man who wants to laugh, who would rather see the bright side of things and who would rather be happy, than be sad. Now don't get me wrong, I'm still a hardcore fan of the HBO series "Game of Thrones," even after the deaths ... but, it's just not my favorite show, as it doesn't connect or align with my personality the way "Parks" does.
When I watch "Parks and Rec," I love seeing Leslie Knope caring for her husband, Ben, her BFF, Ann, and pretty much everyone she comes in contact with. She makes all of these special events for them and tries to record almost every moment of those events in a extremely detailed scrapbook. She might be a little crazy when it comes to sharing and recording great moments with friends, to say the least, but she knows how to enjoy life with the ones closest to her. Loving those weird parts of Leslie's personality reveals how I love to celebrate the little things in life with my friends and enjoy every moment: the good, the bad and the ugly.
Back in my hometown, my track friends and I like to hang out and eat at Buffalo Wild Wings or at the burger place in town. We like to celebrate the little things in our lives. I may not take pictures of these moments and put them in crazy-detailed scrapbooks like Leslie, but I do make little Snapchat stories of these hangouts, so they can be remembered for a short period of time. Favoring the show "Parks and Recreation" shows that I love to act optimistically and how I'm interested in how little moments in my life with friends make it special.
Now, what does your favorite TV show say about you? Don't hate me, if I'm wrong, but if your favorite shows are like "The Bachelor" or "Gossip Girl" or "One Tree Hill" or even "Keeping up with the Kardashians" you probably like some drama in your own life. You're probably interested in the loop of what happens around school or work, whether it's with friends or couples. You are interested in knowing the gossip that is going around school or within your friend group. By watching these type of shows, where the girl didn't get her man of her dreams or vice versa, or the family that has to deal with crazy family troubles, you aren't necessarily nosy, but rather, you are simply human.
I know drama can bring unnecessary craziness into your own personal life, but that unnecessary craziness can sometimes be needed. It can strengthen the true bonds of couples and friends, or maybe show that some bonds were not real. Gossip, when revealed, can show the real voices and thoughts of friends and loved ones. If you watch soap operas or reality shows, it says that you have an honest opinion about certain situations that come up in your life and that you're interested in other opinions on these situations.
If you favorite TV shows are long dramas like action shows, thrillers, crime or horror dramas such as "Game of Thrones," "House of Cards," "The Walking Dead," or "American Horror Story," you may be a person who pays attention to detail: you like to notice the little things and how they affect the overall outcome. This is because when you watch these TV shows, you take interest in the developing stories and they're complex characters. You like the little strange occurrences that are not seen at first glance, you like the unprotected secrets and the inner vengeance one character might have with another. If you watch these shows it reflects that you probably like the thrill of life and like the shocking twists of these shows because, seriously, you have to love the escape from ordinary life to watch these shows where you can be scared to death or feel shocked/saddened/angry when your favorite character on the show dies. "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" fans, you know what I'm talking about. In all honesty, if you like watching these shows, it says you are diligent and like the thrill that life can offer.
All in all, a person's favorite TV show can say so much. It can say how a person who likes comedies is optimistic and celebrates the little things in life. It can say how a person who likes soap operas or reality shows likes some spice in life and can speak up. And it can even say how a person who watches hardcore dramas looks into the little things because they influence the bigger picture.
Yes, I know TV shows are just a form of entertainment for some, and that's fine by me. A person's favorite TV show is like a picture, except instead of being like a random thousand words, a person's favorite TV show is worth the many qualities and interests of the person.
