We all have a guilty pleasure on Netflix; a series that we have watched probably over seven or eight times. But seven or eight is an expectable number and the real number falls more into twelve or thirteen times. We all have a show whose script we know like the back of our hand. It is the thing that we run to on a rainy Monday afternoon when we are procrastinating doing life or on a crazy Friday night (by crazy, I mean having a great time eating a whole bag of Goldfish with a sugar scrub charcoal face mask on--I’ve been there). But what do these shows say about us? Because after all, they have become a part of us.
"Orange Is the New Black"
Or as you probably call it, “OITNB”, because, let’s face it, you love this show and you would cut off your arm to see the new season today. But you have to wait until June 9th, just like the rest of us. It is Netflix's most popular show with a whopping 6.7 million viewers, so I am starting with them. So to the millions of high schoolers who are lying in the comfort of your own bed watching a show about prison culture when you, yourself will never ever be anywhere near one: congratulations. But a quick reality check? You are not anywhere near as “edgy” as you think all because you watch a show.
"Stranger Things"
To the new fan-base who is so excited about a woman named Barb, who brought attention back to 80’s fashion: your excitement for the series is so heartwarming. However, your obsessive need to give spoilers to everyone who didn’t ask for it is not. But I will say, with all of your creative theories that fill the Internet, you should definitely get your degree in Creative Writing.
"Making A Murderer"
Again with the creative theory fan-base, I know all of you binged watched this show (because you brag about it). You post about it. You have to let everyone know what your thoughts are about Steven Avery and the town of Manitowoc County. Watching this show made you want to visit this county and interview everyone in this town, from the mayor to the Sheriff, to the dog who probably saw everything go down, and probably argue your theory with more than one person.
"Grey’s Anatomy"
You started watching this show because Jessica from Biology would never shut up about it, then Kayla from Humanities wouldn’t stop telling you how you have to watch it. So you did. Now, you are the person who can’t shut up about it and has to tell everyone else how it is the best thing that has ever ruined your life. You want everyone to look up to Meredith Grey like you do, and think Shonda Rhimes is the best person who ever walked this Earth.
I know, I know, “I am not this person”. Well, I am not saying that you are. I am not saying that your life revolves around "Gilmore Girls", even if mine does. I am just saying that these are the stereotypes of fans for these shows. And if you can’t laugh at yourself, at least laugh at someone else.
