With Memorial Day just a few days behind us, I cannot help but to be in full summer mode. For me summer means going to the beach. The more I talk to people about the beaches they go to, the more I realize the beach that you go to says a lot about who you are as a person. So here's a list of New Jersey's greatest beaches and what it says about you:
Sandy Hook
You are obviously from New York and the only reason why you go to Sandy Hook is because it's the closest one to New York. Please go back home and take your trash with you.
Highlands
No one actually goes the Highlands unless you live in the Highlands. You, my friend, are a true townie.
Sea Bright
You are a part of a private beach club and you spend your entire summer with your beach club friends pretending that you are a part of the cast of "Laguna Beach" but, in reality, you're just an expensive seasonal cult.
Pier Village
Let's face it you only go to Pier Village to tell your Insta followers that you're going to Pier Village. Don't forget to stop at Blue Skidoo and get your iced skinny vanilla latte with a hint of caramel and take a selfie drinking it.
Long Branch
There are two types of people that go to Long Branch Beach : 1. The people who still think it's a part of Pier Village, and 2. The people that live in Long Branch. Though Long Branch is a pretty chill place, please beware of the misguided hipsters because they may use the entire beach as a scene for their video blog and if you're not careful, they may ask you to be their cameraman or, even worse, a guest star.
Deal
The only reason why people know about Deal is because they were driving down Ocean Avenue and one of two things happened: 1. You got pulled over by the Deal PD for going 28 in a 25, or 2. You passed by the sign that said "Welcome to Deal" and all you could think about was the announcer that goes "Deal or No Deal." Besides that, no one really goes to Deal or even knows where it is.
Allenhurst and Loch Arbor
You are a true Jersey native and you're rich as hell. You don't join a beach club because you want to pretend to be apart of the "Laguna Beach" cast; you join because you think it's cute to support the local businesses and $3,000 a summer is reasonable to you.
Asbury Park
Asbury Park Beach is a magical place with different vibes. You can go with your family for a nice beach day or let your freak flag fly. You can love who you want to love or you can take engagement photos at the Convention Center. Asbury Park is where your dreams can come true. Asbury is a super open and accepting place where you can do what you want as long as you're respectful of others around you.
Ocean Grove, Bradley Beach, and Avon
You probably don't live in these towns, but you live about 15 minutes away. When you describe where you live, you say you live pretty close to the beach. You hate tourists and running into people that you know so you purposely pick these beaches so that doesn't happen.
Spring Lake
Your grandparents went to Spring Lake, your parents went to Spring Lake, and now you go to Spring Lake. To the naked eye, you and your family seem perfect: super kind, polite, considerate of others, have all the inside jokes and somehow always manage to take family photos that are both poised, yet candid, and of course you end the day with a trip to Hoffman’s. But the trained eye can see that you are…. still pretty perfect.
Sea Girt and Manasquan
You are the more realistic version of the Spring Lake beach-goers. Your family is nowhere near perfect. You may drive each other crazy and sometimes even yell at each other in public, forgetting that there are people around you. At the end of the day, you are there for each other no matter what.
Point Pleasant
Everyone goes to Point Pleasant at some point in their lives. It has something for everyone: the boardwalk, amusement park, games, mini golf and the aquarium provide good, clean fun for the whole family. Jenk’s Tiki Bar provides the ultimate 21-and-over beach bar experience and the Wharfside and Lobster Shanty gives you some of the best seafood N.J. has to offer.
Bayhead-Dover
You are most likely from Toms River and, to be honest, you know how to have a good time. At one point in your life, you've either been a lifeguard or worked in one of the major beach bar and grills. You know how to surf or skim board and you truly know what it means to be a beach bum.
Lavallette
Even though you live 15 minutes from the beach, you pack up and spend three months at your beach house. Here, you cut off all ties with your September through May life and embrace your June to August life.
Seaside Heights
You all think this is just like the show but, in reality, it is not like that at all. If that is what you think you might as well go home.
Island Beach State Park
Either you are super into nature or you have gotten lost from your friends at Seaside and, with no sign of civilization, decided to give up all hope and become a mermaid.
Long Beach Island
If you are not from New Jersey, then you are living the life for a week or two. You probably don't have an ocean in your state and you think it is so great that you can ride your bike throughout the entire island. Make sure you play mini golf, visit the shops and get your daily dose of ice cream. For those of you from the area, you can definitely find other beaches that are WAY less crowded.
Ocean City
You enjoy good, clean, family fun. Though you decided not to get matching T-shirts, you made sure to get a super unique umbrella so everyone would know where to meet for lunch or when they drifted down the shore. Since you probably live at least an hour from the beach, you only go a few times a year. But when you do go your trip is not complete without Chickie and Petes crab fries and a fun, family photo.
Strathmore
You still get super excited to get ice cream and crab fries and you make sure that all of your Snapchat followers know exactly what you did each time you went to the shore.
Wildwood Crest
Every person I have ever met who goes to WWC is a unique snowflake that knows how to have a good time. This person is the person you want to bring with you when you need someone to liven up the party.
So there you have it! With these beaches, you are "shore" to have a good time at the Jersey Shore.
