What is an introvert?

An introverted person is someone who tends to turn in mentally. We avoid large groups and energize ourselves by spending time alone.

1.) We are great listeners.

Often, most introverts don’t fancy talking about themselves, or talking to people more than they have to. This makes for a great listener, though! For the most part, we would much rather listen and absorb information to make careful decisions when they arise.

2.) We are self-sufficient.

Most introverts do not depend on other people for things we can care for ourselves. But don’t take this personally! We just prefer to depend on ourselves instead.

3.) Social interaction is exhausting.

Parties, large groups, school, or just going out to the store can often be very tiring. Coming in contact with so many people again and again can drain an introvert. We often cherish time alone to re-charge.

4.) We are very observant.

Many introverted people can sense changes in their everyday lives very easily. Since we listen rather than speak, we observe what happens around us, and how other people act, or change their actions.

5.) Certain environments can be overwhelming.

Too many sensory distractions can cause a lack of concentration for an introverted person. We are pleased by simply sitting at home with a good book and a quiet room. Therefore, busy environments can disturb us.

6.) We are usually quiet, until we are comfortable.

Introverted people tend to choose what they say carefully and think on things longer. We usually have a small group of friends because we choose them carefully.

7.) Introverts make great best friends.

Although we can be shy and reserved, once we open up, introverts are very trustworthy people. We understand how hard it can be to trust people, or approach them in general. We are always willing to listen and try our best to compromise.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
