Lent is so much more than going to fish fry's and giving up eating your favorite candy for the season. Lent is a time of reflection. It is a time to better yourself in thanks for all that God has done. Typically around this time of the year, you and your friends talk about the things you're going to give up and how hard it is going to be. But what are the good things you are going to do this Lenten season? The things that will actually make an impact? Here is a list of things you can do to get you started!

1. Stop gossiping

2. Try not to lie

3. Don't be jealous

4. Do community service

5. Pray more

6. Say thank you more

7. Say I love you more

8. Say I'm sorry more

9. Say I forgive you more

10. Perform a random act of kindness once a day

11. Donate to the less fortunate

12. Fasting

13. Write a journal about self-improvement

14. Read parts of the Bible

15. Reflect more

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

You can't just go to your room to take a nap in the middle of your classes.

Having to spend all your extra cash on gas for your car.

Speaking of money, you probably don't have a meal plan so you're forced to scrounge up some change or mooch off of your friends.

It can be harder to maintain the friendships you make with people from class.

Finding a parking spot.

It can be harder to be involved on campus because between your one, two, or three jobs and school you don't have much free time.

When you try to be super involved on campus, it can kill your sleep schedule.

It's impossible to do homework at home, but staying on campus isn't an option sometimes.

There are surveys and events that you can't participate in because you're a commuter.

Group projects are the bane of your existence.

Traffic.

Your backpack rivals that of a survivalist trekking in the woods.

Driving all the way to campus to find a note on the door of your classroom saying class was cancelled.
