Escaping the Pensacola area to move to Tampa for college was one of my best decisions in life. (And I don't often make very good decisions.) My parents hated seeing my go, and I think about my dogs and cats a lot. A few of my best friends still live in the panhandle, and I drool over their Snapchat stories of my home beach. And as much as I love Tampa, a piece of my heart is still buried in the Pensacola sand. Between the beaches, Blue Angels, and delicious seafood, I have compiled a list of what you should check out in Pensacola.
1. Native Cafe
If you like fresh salsa, fish tacos, and a laid-back beach vibe, head on over to this place. It's a tad small and can get cramped on sunny summer days but it is a perfect place to grab a bite before a long day of tanning. All the servers there are totally chill, and the food is always made with fresh seafood and veggies. I personally recommend the fish tacos or shrimp quesadilla.
2. Bodacious Brew
Coffee. Insanely hot baristas. World's best chai tea latte. I literally don't know what else to say other than that.
3. Ft. Pickens
If you like history mixed with plenty of neat photo opportunities, check it out. Walk through an old battle fort and then cross the beach and chill in the sand. The site also offers campgrounds so rent one, pop up a tent, and have a few beers. You can also get tons of cute pictures in all the doorways and staircases.
4. Pensacola Beach
I will totally admit I am a beach snob. Pensacola offers some of the whitest and cleanest sands and the most crystal-clear water. Sometimes I leave beaches down here feeling grimy. In Pensacola, I always leave feeling like a sandy beach goddess. It is definitely one of the best beaches in the country.
5. Innerlight Surf Shop
Yes, it may seem like just a shop. But shopping local and supporting those who have given so much to the community is a wonderful feeling. If you are into surfing, skateboarding, or just really soft t-shirts, stop by. Oh, and buy one of their air fresheners they sell. It makes your car smell like an island getaway. (Tip: There are several locations, but the one on the pier has a shaved ice shop as well.)
6. McGuire's Irish Pub
Going to McGuire's is a total must-do when in the Pensacola area. If you like huge portions of hearty food and a fun atmosphere, check this place out. It's basically a fancy Irish pub. And if you're of age, order an Irish Wake. It is guaranteed to knock you off your feet.
7. The Naval Aviation Museum
While growing up, my dad took me and my brother here almost every other weekend despite the fact it never changes. It's a free museum on the naval base where you can check out tons of historical planes. It's an enormous building and breath-taking the first time you walk in. It may seem boring, but I promise it is something worth checking out.
