What You Need To Do This Summer

Summer. A time for everyone to let loose a little, relax, enjoy the warmth of the sun before winter captures the sun and the genuine happiness it produces. Your summer bucket list should definitely include these things…

1. Do something you’ve never done before.

It doesn’t matter if it’s something as crazy as skydiving or trying a new food. Just do it! Experience something new, something wild and adventurous that you’ll remember forever. It could be anything! Just try it, live it and I promise you won’t regret it.

2. Read a good book.

Lie on the beach, book in hand, and get lost in a world of mystery or romance or a mythical land you wish you could explore. Let your mind wander free and go places it's never been before.

3. Do something you love.

Something that makes you smile so wide your cheeks hurt.

4. Spend as much time as possible with your family and friends.

Because before you know it, you’ll be packing up again and going back to school where time with them is seriously limited to busy schedules.

5. Spend a day in the city.

You don’t need to have a plan, you can be spontaneous and let yourself wander around the city and experience it for all its glory. Walk down the streets of Manhattan, looking at the tremendous buildings overhead and find the beauty within the city and the enjoyment it brings.

6. Do something you’ve always dreamed of doing.

Don’t say, “Oh, I’ll do that next summer.” Don’t dip the tip of your toe into the cold ocean. Jump right in and let the sense of summer overwhelm you. Live in the now, make things happen now; don’t let life overtake you. Let yourself give into the life that you want to live.

7. Do something nice for someone else.

Spend your free time not only benefiting you, but also someone you love. It’ll make their day, and in turn it’ll make you feel better about yourself.

8. Take a trip somewhere.

Anywhere, for however long, it doesn’t matter. Just take yourself out of the town you’ve lived in your whole life, and experience something different. It could be visiting a college friend or family members.

9. Go to a concert.

It could be a tiny concert in your backyard, or something like Coachella, just let yourself drown in the beat of the music as your body sways side to side. Losing yourself in the music, and just live in the moment.

10. Spend a day without your phone or computer, just go outside and take the summer in for all its glory.

Listen to the happy chirping of the birds, or the crash of waves on the beach. Smell the beachy scent of sun tan lotion, and feel the sun’s rays kissing your skin.

11. And finally, enjoy it.

Spend every moment reveling in the long summer days, find the fun in everything and spread happiness wherever you go.

Summer, feels like its own year. It feels different than any other season, and brings about feelings that completely contrast that of the other seasons. Three to four months of freedom from school, a time that should be spent living life to its fullest and finding happiness.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
