What are You Grateful For?

A moment of gratitude makes a difference in your attitude.

I’m a firm believer that one of the major keys to happiness is to be grateful. Anyone can be unhappy or happy, no matter your life circumstance. What matters most of all is your mindset. The truth is, you will never reach happiness without appreciating what you have in your life. I don’t like to be a hypocrite, so here are some of the things I truly appreciate and recognize that I am privileged to have.

1. The opportunity to go to college.

I am truly blessed to live in a world in which it is the norm to go to university/college straight after high school. Although figuring out what I want to do for the rest of my life is absolutely terrifying, so many people would do anything to be in my shoes. I am currently having a mid-major crisis and one of the things that makes me feel better is to be grateful for my position. No matter what my major is, I am determined to take advantage of the opportunities that I have.

2. My body.

One of my greatest passions is running. It’s one of the activities that once I started, I never stopped. I may have took pauses, but I always come back to running. It has healed me in so many ways and I don’t want to ever take for granted that I am one of the lucky ones who are physically capable of running. I cannot imagine life without running and the effects it has on my mind.

3. My Parents

My parents have worked so hard for everything that I have, which is a lot more than a lot of people. I was blessed with everything that they were not blessed with, but worked tirelessly for me to have. It may not always seem like it to them, but I really do appreciate them for all they do for me. They are amazing human beings and the reason I am who I am.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
