What You Don't Know About Your College

Yes there is more to your college than going to class.

What You Don't Know About Your College

Study. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. But what are you forgetting about during this cycle? Many students are not aware of everything on their campus and it is making their school life harder than it has to be. Do not take for granted what all your campus provides.

Recreation Center

The freshman fifteen is a very real thing but you can avoid it by utilizing your school's rec center. Not only will there be equipment and machines available, but also a variety of workout classes you can attend. Take advantage of not having to pay for a gym membership to learn workout routines and lead a healthy lifestyle. My favorite thing that our rec has to offer is outdoor gear that you can actually check out! So no need to spend any money on your next camping trip!

Counseling

Mental and emotional health is equally, if not more, important than physical. Especially if you want to get the most out of your college education you must take care of your mental well being. Colleges offer counseling in many different areas. If you are struggling with your major or career path you can visit the career center; or if you feel as though you have too much on your plate you can talk to an individual counselor; your academic adviser is there to guide you through your degree plan. Whatever you need help with there is someone on campus who can and is willing to help you. You just have to take the time to look.

Library

I am sure you are aware that your campus has a library where you can check out books and study. However, do you really know what all your library has to offer? What if I told you that you can check out more than just books? Ask the front desk about return dates on each item, but you can borrow white boards, markers, calculators, laptops and so much more. Also, many libraries have staff who can actually help you with your research, or hire student tutors for all subjects! Not to mention, bigger libraries have study rooms that you can claim for a few hours at a time for group study sessions. This is only the tip of the iceberg on the library's services.

Testing Services

Any test you can think of they can help you with. Whether it be testing out of a class, certifications, admissions you name it! They can tell you what you need to know, how to study, and where to sign up. This is a place that you can easily forget about but do NOT forget it exists! Find it on your campus and see exactly what I am talking about. As boring as it may seem it will really help you in the long run.

These are the most common and popular things colleges have to offer, but each university is unique and offers a diverse selection of facilities for students' benefit! Please do not miss out on all the things that your tuition pays for to get the most out of your college experience. Go to your university's website or talk to someone about your school's 'hidden' services.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
