38,000 feet. That is 7.2 miles in the air.

If you have never been on a plane, it is one of the most incredible, breathtaking experiences that you can ever be a part of.

The world is so big & here are just a few life lessons that everyone can realize and learn from being 38,000 feet above the ground.

The world is so vast.

The sky, the ground, the clouds, the ocean -- whatever may surround you as you fly -- are direct evidence of the expansiveness of our world. The earth is HUGE, meaning that is it filled with an abundance of opportunities -- in any area of life -- for those who inhabit it. Seize your opportunities and be confident in knowing that there is something out there that you are made for. Be encouraged to go out into the world and meet new people, learn new cultures, and try new foods.

Some things are necessities and some things are not.

There are limits when flying. As far as bags are concerned, there is a weight, size, and quantity limit. It is in these situations that we must recognize what is absolutely essential for our trip. When applied to life itself, this minimalistic approach gets rid of the unneeded and toxic things and people that are taking up space in our already stressful and busy lives and schedules.

The journey won't always be smooth.

Buckle your seat belt. When boarding a plane, there is always a risk. With a technology that was perfected less than a century ago, flying can run risky when it comes to bad weather, poor visibility, or turbulence. When applied to every day, occasionally life can be rough, bumpy, and not running as smoothly as we would like, but there is always the hope of a long-awaited-for destination at the end.

Disconnecting from technology is totally okay.

How are we going to enjoy the scenery if we are completely glued to our screens? Not only is this demanded when flying, but disconnecting can be applied to other areas of our lives, including family, work, and leisure time. Sometimes it can be so refreshing to put down the phone, log out of Netflix, and just enjoy the ride.

Enjoying the journey includes more than getting to the destination.

As anticipated as the destination may be, we cannot forget to celebrate the ride on the way there. This can be applied in all arenas that life includes; the journey may not always be smooth and like we planned, but each journey can be beautifully breathtaking in its own way.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
