What You Can Learn From Being Single

Being single isn't the end of the world.

It's not the best place to be in when you have this constant struggle with being independent, but when both sides are finally balanced, being single is a blessing in disguise.

I've been single a long while. And when I say a long while I mean forever. My entire life kind of forever.

Sure, I had some high school boyfriends, but I don't count nonsensical relationships that couldn't last longer than a few weeks.

So looking at the boyfriend department, I don't have a lot of experience, so that leaves a ton of experience in the single part of things.

Through being single I have learned a lot, so I hope anyone who is single and feeling utterly alone can really absorb and realize all of the wonderful blessings and lessons that come from being independent.

Being single means you have a lot of time, and that time can be deemed alone time.

That pair of pants you need to sew? Stretch those legs darlin’ and fix em’ right up. That movie you've been dying to see but no one else wants to go with you? Go see it! Indulge in a bag of popcorn and even bring your snuggie. Read a book. Listen to a new artist. Go on a road trip alone. Go on an adventure. Go find yourself. Go find whatever it is you want, and doing it on your own will change your life.

Being single means you've really taken the time to understand what you want.

Sure, you've gone out there and dated but none of them really turned your crank they way you thought they would. Before dating, have an idea of what you want and know absolutely how amazing of a person you are.

Being single gives you the time to know what you have to offer the world.

So when you're ready, go out there and strut your stuff.

Being single hopefully gives you an idea of how awesome it is to not be tied to your phone in constant hope that your having someone to communicate with.

I don't know about you, but I'd much rather be holding onto a book than a telephone.

Being single means a chance to build your confidence, and without the opinion of others.

Slip on the red pumps on a night out with your girls. Spray on that cologne before grabbin’ drinks with your guys. Go more places without putting make on, rock that lovely face of yours and know it's beautiful. Go to the gym. Don't be afraid to put on a bathing suit. But do it because you realize it, not because someone else had to convince you.

Be okay with being alone.

Realize all of the beautiful things it can do for you. It's not about being alone, it's about being confident. It's about knowing your awesome and you haven't found someone equally as awesome that you want to share your super awesome qualities with.

So begin your journey. Take that first step into your adventure of confidence.

Flap those wings you beautiful butterfly.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
