Everybody these days stay on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest or whatever you use. Can you think of a time where none of this existed? Phones that you couldn’t surf the web on.. Weird right? Well imagine not having a phone where you can do all these things on it. Imagine having a phone where you can only call people. Here’s what you could do with all that extra time you spend scrolling and moving those thumbs.

1. Ride a bike, or learn how if you don’t know how to; mriding a bike can be way fun.

2. Go to the movies. There's always new movies coming out so why not watch them?

3. Take a long walk to enjoy nature. Just look at the clouds and everything else God created. It’s all beautiful.

4. Go to the gym. Working out can be fun once you have the right mind set.

5. Play a sport; baseball, football, or soccer in the backyard is always fun.

6. Have dinner with some besties. Friends and food? Yes, please.

7. Go camping, lol ew right? Camping trips are supposed to be adventurous though.

8. Go fishing. It can be boring, I know…but what if you catch a really big fish, how cool.

9. Go for a ride, take a trip to a town you’ve never been to before and explore, without a GPS!

10. Read a book, one that you like…

11. Read the newspaper. There are so many interesting things in them, it's amazing.

12. Visit your grandparents, nobody lives forever.

13. Go see your cousins. You complain about never seeing them anyways, so stop complaining and go.

14. Clean your room, especially after getting ready and changing 10 different times.

15. Do some laundry. There is always laundry to do..

16. Organize your closet, because if we’re being real, who really has a nice clean closet?

17. Go to the zoo, every state has a zoo…I think. And there are so many animals you’ve never seen before.

18. Go to the aquariums, who doesn’t love water and animals?

19. Go to the mall, you can always window shop.

20. Play a board game, or a game like Connect Four...that was my favorite

21. Watch Netfix if you’re just lazy. Netflix is great. So many movies and shows, score.

22. Make a slip-n-slide, and then throw some washable paint on there and wear white. It looks cool.

23. Have a water balloon fight, seriously.

24. Do a puzzle, not a small one, but a big one that can actually take up your time away from a phone.

25. Paint a canvas, girls….I don’t know why this is so fun but it is.

26. Go on a hike, in the mountains with pretty scenery.

27. Adopt a dog; my friends love doing this.

28. Go to the farmers market, sometimes they have cool stuff there too.

29. Bake some brownies, and eat them…or sell them. But eating is more fun.

30. Go to concerts, so so so much fun with all your friends.

The list can go on and on, but those are just a few ideas to help you get started on staying away from social media all the time. Yeah, it can be fun to see what everybody else is doing with their lives, but why not do something with yours instead of watching theirs?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
