Growing up children are often asked the infamous question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Among responses we have an astronaut, a firefighter, a nurse, a teacher, and even the president of the United States. This last one is a great one because what would one do if they were president?
Many would respond vague ideas such as "I will bring world peace" or "I will stop war." Although these are responses that are certainly music to our ears, they are not simple to achieve, none are, and unfortunately at the rate we are evolving they will be extremely difficult to fulfill. There are two ideas that I personally feel are important to tackle as the head of the country. As aforementioned these cannot be easily achieved in four years, nor in a two term run maybe, but can certainly be accomplished in the grand scope. Who is to say that in 20 years we will not be in better terms. If I was running for president these would be my two main focuses and if I were not able to achieve them I would have contributed to bringing them to life.
An essential factor that I would strive to improve as president is our education system. Education is key. The American education system does indeed provide excellent schools, but compared to other nations our standards are not high enough. As president I would strive to provide schools with more supplies, dates books because let's be real, a plethora of books provided are outdated and students will not read them, and teachers adept in many fields, to become among the top ranked education systems in the world. Along with this issue I believe that everyone deserves an education and gender, ethnicity, and social status which have been controversial through the years should not affect whether or not a student attends a university.
Another cause I would take into consideration as president is equality. Yes, I know everyone wants this, it is redundant/ cliche but it is something that can certainly be achieved or the least, improved upon. Many incidents have been occurring recently that spur this feud of equality. Gender equality, race equality, status equality, you name it. Discrimination is a major issue in the United States and it is no longer just a black and white issue. It agitates me that this is an issue and if I were president I will stand up for this until I achieve a solution.
As naive as it may come across for a young adult to explain what she would do as president, it is not impossible. This is not a presidential campaign speech, these are some pointers that future presidents should take into consideration. Our country is in serious demand of change and if my words can contribute to that I would be more than grateful!
