What It's Like To Write For The Odyssey
In Style

Oftentimes while scrolling through Facebook, you'll see articles published by Odyssey. You probably see "The Open Letter to ...." or "10 Reasons Why you.." in addition to other topics.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to write for a company as innovative as The Odyssey? Ever since Odyssey has become a part of my campus experience at Virginia Wesleyan, I knew it was going to do great things.

It was going to give me the chance to write about whatever I wanted how ever I wanted.

It was not going to limit me to certain topics, certain opinions, or certain thoughts. The Odyssey was going to let me get the words that had been trapped in my head for so long out for the world to see.

Odyssey was going to show me that it was okay to express myself even when I thought no one really cared.

Another unique perk of writing for Odyssey is that you never know who is going to read your article. You never know if the article you worked so hard on perfecting is going to help someone in a different state or even in your own hometown. A lot of the articles relate to people on a more personal level than they had ever imagined.

Odyssey is such a great networking system. It connects people from all over the world and brings them here to one site. It is here where you can express yourself without being judged, get your thoughts into writing, and connect with people you would have never met.

It is also a great way to meet people at your school as well as within your larger community. It allows you to see the diversity in other peoples' ideas and helps you to connect with people around your campus. It is also a great way to get the news around about what is going on around your own campus!

Write articles about your school, your interests, your hometown, your local news, your classes, or even about your sports teams!

All ideas are welcomed at Odyssey. I am so glad that I got to connect with people around my campus by doing this through the last few semesters.

I encourage you if you like to write, find an Odyssey community near you that you can contribute to!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
