There isn't much that I wouldn't do for you.
I had this thought cross my mind that when you hit a certain point with someone, you are so close that you really don't have to try that hard anymore.
Then I realized that actually, you have to try harder for them. It's those people in your life that you should work the most for. Those are the ones that really matter: your parents, your best friends, your professors. Whoever the people in your life are that care for you the most.
That is why you have to do it for them. Because they would do it for you.
I don't think there ever comes a time when you should just stop trying to care, or stop going above and beyond for the ones you love. Some would say that if you love someone you don't have to try to love them, you just do; flows of love just come from your heart, acts of service, loving-kindness.
I think that's a load of crap, because all I care about is myself. I am a selfish scumbag on my own.
But God...
See, with God, loving people comes a little more naturally. Loving the ones you try the hardest for, that is what is easy. Even if you don't get anything in return, at least they love you back!
God has called us to do something greater. Not only does he want us to love our brothers and sisters in Christ, but love strangers, love our enemies even.
It is this love that I am just scratching the surface of understanding. It is this love, called "hesed" in Hebrew, "agape" in Greek. Words made up in those languages to try and describe His love for His wretched sin-sick kids.
This love is what I can't give... Of all the things, I give and give and give to the ones I love so much. Only God can love so perfectly, I can try to be just like Him. I might even come close, as my life verse says, "He who started a good work in me will carry it on to completion." My completion will never be as good as what He can offer you.
Oh, and another thing. His love, it will never depart from you.
Do not listen to the lies that God is just sitting on His throne, picking and choosing who He is going to love and how much.
He has loved you from the moment you were conceived, for eternity, forever, always.
I believe that we choose to love God, but love is just who He is. He doesn't have to choose, He just is Love.
So next time I feel like I just can't give anymore love, I will sit back and remember just how much Christ loves us.
Just when I think I couldn't give anymore, I know there is more because Christ continues to fill me.
"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19
