I’m going to start off by saying that this is not a spoiler to the recently released movie: Finding Dory. It’s too great to spoil, you’ll just have to go see it for yourselves; however these are the life mottos we can follow, with inspiration from our favorite blue fish.
Just Keep Swimming
As Dory learned as a baby, the motto, “just keep swimming” kept her going. Through all the trials and tribulations that life presents, the motivation to just keep on going is rather helpful and uplifting. When we get lost and can’t find our way, we have to remember that if Dory just kept swimming and found her way, we can too. When times get tough, just keep swimming.
Don’t Think, Just Do
We all know Dory for her adorable short-term memory loss. She doesn’t do much thinking, she just does. Some of us already follow this, and often times too much, but for those who overthink everything, sometimes it’s okay to just do something and enjoy the ride.
Trust Others
Dory jumps right into the whale’s mouth in Finding Nemo, and trusts the whale’s call to let go. In Finding Dory, she relies on others to find her way home. Some say trust is earned and not given, but you also need to learn to trust people until they give you a reason not to. Use your instincts to make good decisions and don’t be afraid to take a swim of faith and trust in others.
I’m Sorry
Dory can upset some of the other fish in the sea because she’s so darn forgetful, but she always follows up with a sincere apology. When a situation calls, we need to be sincere with those whom we hurt, and when we truly mean it, we can say we’re sorry instead of just swimming away.
Decipher What’s Unforgettable
In Finding Nemo, Dory remember P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way , Sydney and in Finding Dory she remembers much, much more. She not so easily determines what is and what is not unforgettable, but in the end she remembers what’s important. A lot of things in life can be forgotten, but we have to remember what is most important, hold on and never forget.
We owe a big thank you to the fish in the sea for teaching us many life lessons on land.
