It's not all about ice cream.

I have been working at Dairy Queen every summer since 2013. It was my first job and I used to love going to work everyday. I have come to have a love-hate relationship with my workplace. In my time there I have learned several things.

1. Not everyone is going to have a pleasant attitude towards you.

I don't know how it is possible to be in an unpleasant mood when eating ice cream.

2. Becoming a pro at flipping blizzards upside down

It never gets old watching little kids faces when you flip their blizzard upside down.

3. I now have the entire blizzard menu memorized.

Why yes, I can rattle off the many different flavors and what is in each blizzard

4. It is totally normal when working in the cold kitchen to get ice cream and other toppings literally all over you.

This is what your shirt looks like before the first blizzard you make. They never stay this clean.

5. I can clean windows like a boss.

Please put your hands on the glass doors so I can show you how well I can clean it

6. How to use a drive thru headset

They really are as uncomfortable as they look

7. The downside of having to wear safety shoes.

They stop being comfortable after the first two hours at work

Overall, working at DQ has been a good experience. I've learned the extent of my patience and I've had the pleasure of knowing the regulars. I love getting to interact with customers and serving ice cream with a smile.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
