Why I Won't Flash My Lights When I See A Cop
Fortune

So, we all know those unspoken rules of driving. These things are; flashing a semi-truck to know he can switch lanes and there's enough room, waving to someone who lets you into traffic, waving to construction workers, moving to the slower lane if someone is riding your bumper, staying a significant amount of space behind a motorcyclist, flashing your lights to oncoming traffic if there's a cop, and so much more.

Maybe it's something that I didn't realize before, but I've seen so many people flash me while driving and I have to admit I've done the same. Let's think about it, most of the time we kind of thank those people that flash us because we know we were definitely speeding. I was in a training for work the other day and we had this discussion. A poll was taken to see if people flashed drivers when there was a cop ahead. Around 75% of the class raised their hands. There was a long discussion about why people do it versus why they don't. It came down to all about how the world is now. That driver we just flashed could be leaving the scene of a crime, could be a person that just kidnapped someone and has them in the car, they could be "high" on some kind of drug, they could be drunk, speeding, or much worse. Yes, it's a game of it "could be," but why risk it?

I suppose that you can't know for sure, but I have made the decision to no longer flash my lights if I know there was a cop in the area. I think that if the person is speeding, they most likely deserve the ticket. Of course, there's a billion scenarios to why someone is speeding, but for the sake of this article, most people just speed to get anywhere faster because they're impatient. Which is why I didn't argue with the cop when he pulled me over last year for speeding. I knew I was late and was trying to be on time, $120 later I learned my lesson. So my advice is to no longer flash other drivers when there is a cop present. You never know who that driver is and what they are getting into.

See you next time.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
