What We Miss Most About Home...

Is it your parents you are having separation anxiety from, or your pet…

What We Miss Most About Home...
tenminutes.ph

For many of us, Thanksgiving is our first time going home since we have been at school. We all miss the comfort, cleanliness, and love that comes with being home. Sometimes we need a break from the late hours from studying, partying, and staying up for no apparent reason.

1. Homecooked meals.

Whether its breakfast in bed, walking downstairs to a set the table, or the fully stocked fridge, nothing makes us feel healthier and less guilty than eating a home cooked meal.

2. A bigger, and comfier, bed.

It feels good getting into a perfectly made bed and having someone make it for you in the morning. The mattress pad that you are so used to sleeping on is something you look forward to not moving from.

3. Your pet.

While you’re home, the barking is an annoyance, but when you are away, you miss the welcoming committee that is always there. The one that gives a guaranteed hello when you walk in the door is the one you have separation anxiety from the most.

4. Favorite restaurants.

The food in Madison is endless, however, for me, there is nothing better than a New York bagel. I know I’m not alone when I say that when I get home I make it a point to hit all my favorite food spots.

5. Driving.

At a school where the mode of transportation is walking, I often forget I even have my license. When I go home, I take advantage of my time behind the wheel.

6. Your home squad.

There is nothing like the presence of the girls who know you best. You are finally reunited with the ones you loved going out with in high school, squished on to one bed to watch movies with, and ran to for advice.

7. Parental presence.

At school, we have stress and our only option is to pick up the phone. For somebody who calls their parents on the way to the majority of their classes, I look forward to going into their room to say goodnight, texting them when I'm home, and simply joining them for errands.

8. Your sister's closet.

While I’m away my sister has a free for all with all the clothing I left home. Now that I am home, I can steal all of the stuff she got while I was away.

9. Shower pressure.

No matter if you are in a dorm or a beautiful apartment, nothing beats the shower pressure at home. The clean feeling you have at home is much different than the clean feeling you have at school.

10. Being able to do just nothing.

Even when you don’t have work at the moment, there is always another assignment to start planning for. Being home entails laying on the couch with no worries.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
