What We Learned From Each Of The "Friends"

The life lessons we learned from Ross, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Monica, and Rachel

What We Learned From Each Of The "Friends"

We've all heard the theme song. More than likely you clap your hands four times when you hear the words, "So no one told you life was gonna be this way." From Ross and Rachel to Phoebe and Mark. You know every relationship, every joke, and every line. You've already taken every test that tells you which character you're most similar too. You and your group of friends has decided who's who and for what hilarious reason. So what is it about this show that makes it so timeless? Perhaps its the fact that every one of the FRIENDS taught us a lesson about how to make life the happiest it can be.

1. Ross Geller

Whether it's his charming intelligence or his knowledge of KA-RA-TAE, we loved Ross for ten dinosaur filled years. His dedication to Rachel taught us that once you find the one, no one else is good enough. He taught us to follow your heart and to never give up on love.

2. Joey Tribbiani

Ah yes, Joey Tribbiani, my first love. If your significant other has never looked you in the eyes and said, "How you doin'?" then you need to rethink your love life. Perhaps the greatest actor to ever grace Days of Our Lives, Joey gave all of the young, aspiring actors and actresses hope that their big break was just around the corner. However, Joey's biggest lesson to all of us was loyalty. Through Kathy, Janine, Janice, and even Monica Joey kept his friendship with Chandler a priority. He intervenes when men hurt his friends who he holds as close as sisters. Joey's persistent loyalty to his friends teaches us to always have the backs of those we hold dear.

3. Monica Geller

Chances are you haven't put a cold glass on your coffee table without a coaster. You can thank Monica for your ring free furniture. With her persistent cleanliness and dramatic weight loss Monica taught us to take the steps necessary to live the life you want to live. She's not herself when her apartment is not exactly the way she likes it to be. She was unhappy with her body so she changed it. Monica does what makes her feel like her best self.

4. Phoebe Buffay

Quirkiness and beauty, Phoebe is the whole package. As Mike would put it, "She's so wonderfully weird." despite coming from a broken home and a less than ideal childhood, Phoebe makes the best of her life by finding people that become her family. Phoebe teaches us that no matter where you come from or what cards you are dealt in life, you can find your happiness by finding the real friends.

5. Rachel Green

Every young man that watched FRIENDS has a crush on Jennifer Aniston. The most popular baby name the year Rachel had her baby was, wait for it... Emma. Every girl wanted to be like Rachel Green. She gave up the opportunity to not have to work a day in her life to start over and make success and happiness on her own. Rachel teaches us that it is never to late to be who you want to be.

6. Chandler Bing

Hands down one of the funniest television characters to ever grace the screen. Every quiz I take says I am most like Chandler and those are some of the proudest moments of my life. Chandler teaches us perhaps the most valuable life lesson there is; laugh. Life is very short and Chandler Bing teaches us not to take life so seriously. Find time in busy life to sit back, laugh, and enjoy the time you have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
