What We Can Learn From "One Love Manchester"

Sunday, June 4, 2017, seemed like the entire world was stuck in front of the TV to witness a fracture of world history being made. One Love Manchester gathered 50,000 people to raise money and honor the victims of the terror attack that took place in Manchester on May 22.

I am sorry to say that I am slowly getting used to seeing headlines about terror attacks in the news, and that my reaction isn’t like what it’s been before. When the news spread about the attack in Manchester I simply thought, «Where’s next?». Little emotion was awakened over the news. And I bet I wasn’t the only one to feel this way.

Having people getting used to living with terror is proof of how wrong of a direction this world is going.

However, seeing what Ariana Grande and her team had pulled together in less than two weeks after the attack at her own concert, I was reminded of how I should be feeling about living in a world with terror.

We should live fearlessly and be reunited through love.

We need to remember that we are stronger together and that we can make a difference. Even though hate is powerful, it is nothing compared to the love we can show together. As Miss Grande stood in front of the crowd so touched and loving but yet strong, fearless and powerful she set a leading example for the world.

Seeing all the emotions from the crowd and the performing artist reminded me that we should under no circumstances accept that hate and terror is a part of our world today. Rather, we should come together through events to show the culprits that we will not let them ruin us and that we do not accept actions and behavior like terror.

During the show, Miss Grande said that "love and unity is the medicine that the world really needs right now". While saying that, I hope she understood the huge awareness she has created around the world after the attack and that we will accept nothing but love for the future.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
