What Was Your Favorite Part of This School Year?

953

As another school year comes to a close, more memories have been made, more laughs have been shared, and more stories have been developed to look back on in the future.

The 2013-2014 school year has definitely been one for the books.

It deserves some recognition, which is why I asked 30 anonymous Mizzou students about their favorite part of this year. After a short pause and a “that’s a tough one, let me think about it,” most students were able to give me a very definite answer.

1.     “Syllabus week first semester.”

2.     “Well, spring break is definitely at the top.  And also the atmosphere of campus during the Blues vs. Blackhawks series.”

3.     “110% Gulf Shores was the best part of the school year.”

4.     “When we beat Johnny Football and stormed the field.”

5.     “Bid day!”

6.     “The winery.  Never fails.”

7.     “Right now – the end of the school year.  I’m killin’ it.  Seriously, even though I’m so stressed, I’ve been going out a lot.  This time is the bomb.”

8.     “Knowing a lot more people than I did the year before.”

9.     “Our kick-ass football season.”

10.  “Mardi Gras.  I was in my element.”

11.  “Our group of friends making the change from Big 12/Bengals to Harpos as our neighborhood watering hole.”

12.  “Gulf Whores.”

13.  “Tailgates and Gorilla Zoe.”

14.  “Tailgates, ski trip, spring break, or Pig Roast.”

15.  “Snow days and Thursday nights with my sisters.”

16.  “The Cotton Bowl.”

17.  “Spring break.  When I became a legend.”

18.  “Probably meeting so many people from different areas and still having my good friends from back home.”

19.  “Spring break.  Is that what everyone is telling you?”

20.  “Sundays at Big 12 watching the Chiefs games.”

21.  “SEC Championship game in Dallas.”

22.  “Joining my sorority.”

23.  “Tough question.  The end of the year though, that’s always the best time.”

24.  “Going to Gumby’s late at night every weekend and eating pizza.”

25.  “Finishing my first semester of nursing school!”

26.  “Football season and tailgates.”

27.  “Probably when the Blues beat the Hawks in OT during Game 2 of the playoffs.”

28.  “Living with 80 other guys who I’ve become great friends with.”

29.  “When the students all made a wall around Mizzou to protect Michael Sam.  It restored my faith in humanity.”

And last, but simply not least…

30.  “My favorite part of this school year was actually falling in love with Mizzou.  Watching walks of shame through the Quad, calling people by only their last names and/or their ridiculous nicknames they received after embarrassing nights at Big 12, watching Michael Sam become the face of Mizzou and being proud of it, bonding with strangers over the hatred for the undersized bathrooms in Arts & Sciences, yelling ‘Miz’ anywhere and hearing a little ‘Zou.’  All these things and more just won’t ever get old.  They’re the inevitable things that make an unforgettable college experience.”

It’s safe to say that Mizzou students thoroughly enjoyed their school year.  From sunny tailgates to winter snow days, the year was filled with memories.  You know what they say: college goes by fast, and you have to make the most of it because someday you’re going to be in the real world wishing you could go back.  From the answers I received, I can assure you that our students are making the most of their college years.

Oh, and what was my favorite part of this Mizzou school year?

That’s a tough one, let me think about it.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
