What Walt Disney World Taught Me
Maria Hernandez

have recently been blessed with the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World. It is safe to say that those few days have truly been some of the best days of my life. Being a 19 year old girl, I feel as if I have a special take on how it has affected me.

Disney is an age rewinder

Being surrounded with Disney characters and happy songs will get you feeling like a kid again. Being a 19 year old, it made me feel like I was a 9 year old fan girling over my favorite characters.

It brings out the best in people

Being at Disney World, there's always a smile on people's faces. No wonder why people go there for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. There's no better place to celebrate!

You'll never get so many steps on your Fitbit again

Walking around Disney Springs, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom even just for a day will definitely get you over your goal of how many steps you want to get for the day.

What is real life?

If you ever need an amazing break from reality, Disney is your place! They do such a great job at expressing their fantasy world with creativity and imagination, it is easy to forget about any of the worries of reality.

Remembering the power of hope, imagination, & inspiration

By seeing all of their shows and going on all the rides, you truly get reminded of the power of how your imagination and having inspiration can change people's lives. You realize how parents, younger kids, and teenagers can be inspired by it all and how it shows that no matter what your age is, that magic is always there.

Dreams do come true

From Cinderella expressing how a dream is a wish your heart makes and to wish they will come true to Walt Disney himself saying that "All our dreams come true if we have the courage to pursue them" Disney gives us that magical feeling to keep on believing.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
