Valentine's Day is a big holiday for many people. While Valentine's Day is generally an important holiday for people with boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, or wives, my Valentine's Day will always mean something just a little bit different.
Growing up, Valentine's Day had been that holiday where you made a cool box, took it to school, and passed out pre-made valentines to all of your friends. Valentine's Day parties at school were always my favorite. My mom was the chaperone. I always felt just a little bit more important with her leading the party games and festivities.
Personally, Valentine's Day was one of my favorites as a child. My family took it just a little bit further. Valentine's Day was a weekend full of fun, all spent with my grandma, aunt, cousin, and even a friend or two.
Looking back, it's easy to see that although at the time I was maybe 5 and my cousin 3, we ran these Valentine's Day sleepovers. We wanted 7 boxes of valentines to pass out between the 4 four of us? Of course! Build a cake and shove a Barbie in it? No problem! Invite a friend who stays up all night? Gladly!
In the many sleepovers we had on Valentine's Day, no two were truly alike. We brought our sleeping bags and invaded the basement. We spent hours making cookies in the easy bake oven, watching movies, reenacting those same movies, and so many other things.
A key component of these great sleepovers were our twin dolls. While today's kids probably have no idea what those are, my cousin and Addie and I sure do. Twin dolls are similar to American Girl Dolls but are made to look like you. For the most part they did: until you got a brush stuck in their hair. These dolls did everything with us. They wore matching clothes, had matching luggage, and even made to go get professional pictures done with us.
All I can truly say about Valentine's Day is that us has been one of the most memorable holidays in my life. Whether I was tripping over silk pajama pants that were too big, or losing a HoverDisk in the neighborhood, I still had a great time.
Happy Valentine's Day!
