What It Truly Means To Be A Hopeless Romantic

Being a hopeless romantic is about more than just love.

Some people may view a hopeless romantic as one who dreams too large; one who dwells on fantasies incapable of reaching. I have been called a hopeless romantic many times and some that have labeled me as such do not necessarily see it as something very hopeful.

However, I hope to enlighten those doubters that being hopeless is quite the antonym of a hopeless romantic. For us hopeless romantics, the true meaning of life is love and we believe in love as we believe that light can seep through even the darkest areas of life. Being a hopeless romantic, notions of romance are not just for an intimate relationship with a significant other. No, romance engulfs our mind in every relationship we have encountered.

The perks of being a hopeless romantic are quite endless! Just to name a few:

1. We can see beauty in just about anything.

As the familiar saying goes- without the rainstorm, there would be no rainbow. A hopeless romantic can see the beauty in just about anything. For one who sees flaws as something that should be hidden, a hopeless romantic will see these "flaws" as a unique feature that adds character. The world would be boring if everyone was the same. For one who sees a struggle of something as defeat, a hopeless romantic sees struggle as a temporary obstacle to overcome and to build strength on.

2. We are driven by passion.

A hopeless romantic will see that life is filled with endless opportunities. With a given opportunity, a hopeless romantic will try to see this opportunity as something that they can potentially love being a part of. If they do not feel this sense of drive, they will simply find another opportunity to fill that desire. Even if a hopeless romantic is stuck in a rut with little opportunities available, they will look at this as a chance for growth on themselves to create their own open doors.

3. We are empathetic.

We frequently find ourselves in deep sonder. Each moment is an essence of timelessness. With every single thing that has occurred in every one of our lives, each one consisted of some sort of value. Each moment essentially becomes infinite. Whether or not it had a small or large impact, our moments have molded us into the individuals that we are today. This is something that us hopeless romantics understand to the very core. We forgive easily because we know that actions made from an individual were reasoned based off of the moments they have lived. We love easily because we understand that essentially, love is what's needed in this world. Love is what turns bitterness into happiness. It turns anger into consciousness. It turns sadness into feelings of euphoria.

4. We are optimistic yet realistic.

In life, we are faced with many obstacles. A hopeless romantic always tries to see the glass as half full yet also knows that they could be given polluted water. Humans make mistakes, and sadly some people might even be toxic. Even though a hopeless romantic is filled with love, they know when to let go. A hopeless romantic will not see someone as something to simply "fix" and they certainly won't wait long until the toxicity ends. A hopeless romantic is very optimistic in giving chances, but they also know when they need to stop giving them.

5. We are not hopeless.

If anything, a hopeless romantic will hope for the "hopeless". We see that everyone has the potential for growth, for love and for pursuing happiness. Everyone has their own light, their own beautiful colors, it's just a matter of letting them shine.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
