What True Love Is Today

Everyone has their own definition of true love, what's yours?

What True Love Is Today

Growing up I always thought true love was what I saw in the movies

And what I read in fairytales.

I thought it was supposed to be red roses,

Dates on Saturday nights, little square boxes that held expensive things,

And always knowing what to say in every situation.

I thought true love was a kiss in the rain,

Deep explanations, and the most perfect back story.

But now that I'm older I've realized it's not like that at all.

See because true love today is sending ugly Snapchat's and peeing while you're on the phone.

True love is kissing when you first wake up or after a night out on the town,

Despite the way your breath may smell.

It's singing on the top of your lungs whenever a song comes on,

And screaming every word in their face while they sit there and act like they hate it.

It's saying all the wrong things, at all the wrong moments.

It's constant sarcasm and being honest with each other even when it hurts.

It's late hours of the night when it's been a long hard day,

And your both sitting their all natural with bad hair.

It's tears from laughter, tears from sadness, and tears from happiness.

It's never running out of things to talk about,

And it's being comfortable in the silence of things.

True love is watching a million and ten chick flicks that you swore you never would.

It's getting mad over the stupid things, but getting over it within minutes.

It's a mixture of "I love you" and "you're so annoying,"

And knowing that you're so lucky to hear those words everyday.

It's spilling your feelings out at four in the morning when you should be asleep.

It's most likely going to be one of the worst stories you could imagine,

But you'll thank God every day that it worked out anyways.

It's that song you hear on the radio that always makes you smile.

It's stealing their clothes and waiting for them to notice.

It's showing them off every chance you get,

Whether it's in public or social media.

True love is never losing the magic.

True love is not leaving when things get hard.

It's nothing like the fairytales or the storybooks that you read.

It's so much more and it's so much better.

It's better because its your own.

True love is your own definition,

Your own love story that people can aspire to have but never will.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
