The Beetle is one of Volkswagen's most iconic cars. In 2019 the Beetle was discontinued, and though this is not the first time the model was discontinued, this time it may be gone for good. This continuation means a lot of change for Beetle owners and potential buyers.
People who already own a Volkswagen Beetle should take good care of it. Don't be to rough on the car because the only parts you can get for Beetles are after-market parts not made by Volkswagen.
This may not be a huge issue because many after-market parts are decent in terms of quality, but be careful because there are just as many after-market parts of horrible quality out there as good ones. To add to the issues with after-market car parts, parts for Beetles are not as common as parts for other cars because Beetles require parts designed specifically for them because of their uniquely small engine bays.
For this same reason, people interested in buying a Volkswagen Beetle should understand that they will most likely have to buy a used one and be prepared to get new parts if need be. Buying a used car is enough of a gamble as is, since the vehicle may not be in the best quality at the time, but you'll have to be prepared to gamble on the quality of the parts you get as well if you need to replace things.
At the same time, the value of Volkswagen Beetles may increase over time. Many Beetles made before 2000 will be considered "classic cars" as they have been around for twenty years or more, and being considered a "classic" makes a care more valuable than it once was. On top of this, all Beetles will become collectors' items, considering their discontinuation, and even the most recently made Beetles will become more valuable.
Because of this, if you already have a Beetle, you may want to hang onto it as a collectible. On the other hand, if you don't have one, you might want to get one, though if you do, understand that you may have to buy it at a higher than expected price because of its collectable status.
Throughout time, Volkswagen Beetles have had mixed popularity. They have a lovable design and are generally fun to drive, but have never been anything special in terms of quality. Now that they are no longer in production, however, now might be a good time to get one if you know what you might be getting into with it.
