The holidays are coming up and I know that so many people get nervous about what to get everyone for Christmas. I know some people think that college kids can be picky and you may be stressing about what to get your college kid for Christmas. As a college kid myself here are some things that I am pretty sure any and all college kids would greatly appreciate and love to get from you this holiday season.

Sleep.

Encourage us to take a nap. Let us sleep in over break even if it is late into the afternoon. We will appreciate it so much and we will be happy for the whole rest of the day.

A home cooked meal.

We don't even remember what one of these tastes like. We live off food from the caf and microwaved food. Just to have some home cooked comfort food could literally make us cry tears of joy. All you have to do to make us happy is put carbs and free in the same sentence.

Quality time.

Let's just watch a movie or bake cookies. Just a relaxing time to hang out. We just want to spend time with the ones we love the most. This may sound shocking but maybe we can even put our phones up and we can just enjoy each others company.

Quality conversation.

Let's talk jokes and how dumb we think our assignments are. Let's talk about sports and the biggest celebrity breakups. Let's talk about how you have been and how I have been and how we are both dysfunctional but awesome. Let's talk about weird, funny, embarrassing things, because that is quality. Let's talk about serious things. Let's talk about whatever you think is important and I will fill you in on the important things in my life, even if that is just how I got an open washer and dryer in the dorm the other day.

Reassurance.

Just tell us that we can do this. That we can get through all of the exams and confusion. Tell us that you're proud of us for all the work we have put into our future degree. Tell us that we are doing great and to keep moving forward. Just think you might be the only encouragement we will hear in a long time. One encouragement can keep us going for ages.

Some fun.

Let's just go on some adventures. Let's go ice skating or just rent a movie. Take us to try something new or something old to bring back an old memory. College kids just wanna have some fun. We spend most of our time in class or at the library so let's change it up a little bit.

To be with the one's we love.

It seems like the older we get the less we get to see all of the important people in our lives. This Christmas we just want to be with those who love us and we love them. We want to catch up and be reminded of the bigger picture. That life is not about GPA or exams, but about the people we choose to have in our lives.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
