11 Realities Of What To Expect Being Around Filipino Women

Whenever someone looks at me, they often wonder what ethnicity I am. This article is devoted to the great and fun adventure of being Filipino. Being Filipino means being from the 99 islands 5 hours (by plane) off the coast of Japan. We're in the middle of the Pacific Ocean in Asia in the country of the Philippines.

The Philippines is beautiful and it's filled with tons of great food, friendly and welcoming people and breath-taking scenery! Most people don't often know about the Philippines and what it's like until they are around an individual, or if you're lucky, you can experience, a whole group of us!

Here are some things that you'll expect from any contact, or interaction with anyone who is a Filipino!

1. Food!

When you're around Filipinos, you will be surrounded by tons of delicious food! Come hungry, because you will leave not being able to move!

2. A good time.

Being around Filipinos, I guarantee you that you will not be bored.

3. The famous "Filipino time":

This one, you'll have to be patient with us. We live by the island life, so we'll arrive pretty much an hour late after the time you tell us.

4. We're always talking.

We can carry a conversation so easily because we love to talk!

5. We care.

We love to be surrounded by people that we will make sure that you feel like we care and will go out of our way to show you we do.

6. We love the simple things:

Most Filipinos grew up with not much and had to get by with what we could, so laughing and enjoying life can be seen when we're just going about our days. We stay positive.

7. We value hard work:

The way we were raised is at the core of our values.

8. There's never a dull moment:

When you're around us, we'll make you laugh because we're naturally entertainers.

9. Hospitality is what we're about:

If we want you to come stay with us, we mean it and we will make you feel right at home.

10. Traditions are huge to us.

Just like any other family, or group of people, we love traditions and we are rooted in them.

11. We love to see and learn about the world.

We'll travel far and wide since we love to experience new things!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
