What To Do When You Are Feeling Homesick In College

I remember being homesick almost every day during my first semester of college. I was constantly upset and spent my days in my room or in bed looking at pictures of home and my friends. I kept telling myself that I wasn't happy at school, and I just wanted to be home. Also, I really missed the home cooked meals... like, ALOT. Looking back on that, I've come to realize that those feelings I had were just part of the difficult transition from high school to college. For some people it might be easy, but for others, it can be very hard to adjust to a new life on their own.

One important thing that you can do to not feel so homesick is to try to get involved on campus. Whether that be joining a club, getting a job, joining a sports club team, looking at frats or sororities, there are so many things you can do that can distract you and make you feel involved. It can give you a new perspective on things and make you feel happier if you are busy and doing something that you love to do!

Being more involved on campus can also allow you to meet new people. I remember I had a really tough time making friends my first year of college. The people on my floor in my dorm did not talk so much, so I only had my roommate and some girls who lived next door. I always felt very lonely and that caused me to feel more and more homesick. Well, by putting yourself out there and getting involved, you could meet new people that can be your friends or even best friends! Having close people by your side will make the campus feel smaller and more like home. Friends can help you overcome your feelings of being homesick, and might actually make you not want to go home!

Another important thing that everyone should do no matter what, is to focus on yourself! I know, being homesick can make you feel sad, hurt, and like you don't want to do anything. However, college is the only time you will ever be surrounded by so many people of your same age, so many opportunities, so much freedom, and thousands of things to do and learn from. Focus on you! Workout a lot, take a bunch of cool classes, try new foods, watch movies with friends, go out and party, study and do well in school. Take advantage of the freedom and opportunities you have, because these 4 years will never happen again!

Being homesick sucks, I know. Even if you do everything that I said, you could still feel homesick, but that is okay. It is a normal feeling that you could have for a very long time. I know I still have it from time to time, and I am a sophomore in college! Just know that there are so many things you can do to put those feelings to the side for a bit. There really is no place like home, but you can make any place feel close to home if you really try.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
