"When I get lonely these days, I think: So be lonely, learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person's body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings."
-Elizabeth Gilbert
So you're lonely. Maybe it's just a temporary feeling, or maybe it's more of a chronic feeling. Either way, the first thought may be to suppress it. But you cannot do that, because it will only come back with vengeance. So if you're lonely, let yourself be lonely. Allow yourself to fully feel what you are feeling and embrace it.
Denying ourselves of human emotion is to deny ourselves of an authentic human experience.
Part of being human is feeling things, and not all those feelings are good, but regardless, being able to feel such range of emotions is what makes us different than other species. The first thing to do if you're lonely is to feel it.
Now that you've acknowledged the way you feel, you can realize the greatness that can come of this. It may be hard to see at first, but through your loneliness, you can grow even more into the beauty that you are. Now is your time. Today is your day. This very moment, this very second is yours. Use this time of loneliness to look inward. What is something you have always wanted to do or accomplish? What are your goals and how are you going to reach them? Spend this time on you!
"So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers."
