Have you ever had everything in your life go well as you wanted and then out of no where life hits you with a curb? Everyone has experienced that at some point, some more than others. They way people react when they are in a tough situation is different and it all had to do with mentality. For instance, if you are a sensitive person, you will most likely either cry, throw something, or have a panic attack. If you are strong minded you react by either not speaking and being serious all day or do activities that will keep you busy and get your mind off the negative things.

Other times life hits way harder than being in a situation where you failed an exam, such as death, illness, financially struggling, etc. No matter how dark life hits, here are three main tips on what to do to get rid of any negativity.

1. Think about solutions

Even though most of the time people do not want to think about the situation they find themselves in, it is smart to think of possible solutions. This will allow your mind to ease rather than stress over and over about the same thins. Thinking of possible solutions can make you realize that maybe your situation isn't as big as you originally, though, allows you to seek a positive side, and it allows you to work on improving yourself and maturity.

For example, let's say you had just lost your job and you were making a great amount of money. Yo are stressed because you are jobless, your solutions would be to start applying for new jobs, look through your connections and see if anyone can offer you a job, or maybe you decide you don't want a job or want a job in a different field. You unstressed yourself by realizing your endless possibilities in the workforce.

2. Seek advice

Nobody wants to but their businesses out there but getting advice from other voices will make you feel better because they will know how to comfort you. You will also get different perspectives of what people have to say and at the end, it is up to you whether you want to take someone's advice or not. It will make you feel less alone, especially if someone has been in the same position at some point.

3. Sleep

Sleeping is the remedy for everything and anything! And you know this is true if you every cried yourself to sleep, woken up and somehow everything is more clear. You previous emotional state is different and you have a new start.

Life can be a little bitter when we least expect it, but we must remind ourselves that it's just a bump and we will continue with our journey. It's all about staying positive!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
