Life doesn't always go the way that you want it to and that's a fact. Whether it's not graduating on time or not getting your dream job, it's easy for you to feel like your world is spinning out of control. You were extremely excited for something that just isn't going to happen. It's human instinct to feel broken after something like that happens to you. What you can't let it do however is let it keep you that way. I know it's easier said than done, but with these tips I'm still learning how to cope with it everyday.

Be proud of yourself

Whatever it was that didn't work out wouldn't have even had a chance of happening if you didn't try. So be proud that you got that far and of every step you took to get there. There are many accomplishments ahead of you to look forward to.

Trust a higher power

For me, talking to God everyday really helps deal with things that happen unexpectedly. I trust him with my life and when I'm upset I feel that he's there comforting me. I tell myself that he is putting me on the right path, and it almost always turns out that I am right.

Listen to music

Music is my therapy. It doesn't matter if it's John Mayer or Billy Joel I instantly feel relaxed when I hear that first note. It feels great to just put in your earphones and forget about your problems for awhile.

Reflect on what went wrong

It might hurt a little to figure out what happened when it didn't work out, but it will ultimately be a good thing in the end. Hopefully when you find out you can learn from your mistakes and move forward.

Realize how tough you are

You have gotten through hard times before and you can now. I know that it's cliché for me to say that but it's true. You are strong and you can handle anything that life throws at you.

Try to go with the flow

I'm usually one of those people that get uneasy when I can't control what's happening. However, I think it's definitely more stress free to go with the universe.

Take it one step at a time

No one is rushing you. Everyone heals at a different pace and you should just take it day by day.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
