Summer for most often means doing the same things they do every year, whether it's going to the beach, shopping, or the movies. For college students especially doing these same tedious activities can become boring because of how long our summer break is. Here are some ideas that you and your friends can do this summer to create a memorable summer.

1. Zoo & Aquariums- I personally haven't been to the zoo since I was little and is a place that would probably be a lot of fun with a group of friends on a cool summer day. If you are an animal lover like I am this is a no brainer

2. Hiking- Grab some friends and go on a hike, you know once you get to the top of the trail you'll want to take that Instagram perfect photo.

3. Plan a day trip- Depending on where you live where you go can vary. For me personally planing a day trip to NYC with my friends allows us a change of scenery from what we see everyday.

4. Go to a food market- Summer time is the best time for eating fruit so what better way then to buy some fresh fruit from an outdoor food market. This way you can also enjoy the beautiful summer weather.

5. Music events- Sometimes concerts can get expensive and require long drives so instead look for local music events because if anything it can provide background music while you hang out with your friends.

6. Amusement parks- If you're a roller coaster junkie like myself you must visit an amusement park over the summer. People tend to head straight for the shore and only go to the boardwalk, but going to an amusement park provides a completely different experience.

7. Fitness class- Sign up for a fitness class and challenge yourself. Whether it's soul cycling or a kickboxing class, if you sign up with friends you're bound to have fun and who knows you might even enjoy yourself more than just using the treadmill at the gym.

8. Drive-in movies- It's easy to go to the movie theatre, but driving out of your way a to go to a drive-in movie is totally worth the trip. Roll the windows down get some friends together or a significant other and a ton of snacks.

9. Set a goal- Set a goal for yourself. Whether it's a fitness goal, a reading goal, a trying new things goal. Spend the summer trying to achieve that goal.

10. Have a bonfire- Get all your friends together and have a bonfire, make s'mores, tell stories and make memories

11. Craft- Do some art and craft activities, whether you're painting the sunset or collecting seashells and making necklaces.

11. Relax!- With all these activities don't forget to do the most important thing this summer and that's relax.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
