What to Do Now That You Have So Much Free Time
Emma Jinno

For the first time since maybe kindergarten, college freshman have a break to do no work what so ever! Even if I wanted to be doing homework right now, reading or even studying ahead for the next subject, there's nothing to be done! Were free from school work for practically a month, and have to wait for further instruction to move on. Well, you're probably beginning to get bored of just sleeping all day and running out of money quickly because you've already gone shopping maybe four times and have been eating out every night. Here are some free and entertaining things to do while you're relaxing during this long break.

1. Go outside, play some freezing cold tennis with friends, or maybe just a pickup game of basketball. You can get some of your friends to spend some time with you and enjoy the breezy winter air.

2. Watch some movies! Starwars just came out, Sing has already has a huge audience, and La La Land seems absolutely amazing because, well, Ryan Gosling.

3. If you're not about watching movies in theaters or it's just too crowded for your liking, Freeform has taken over ABC Family's tradition of the 25 Days of Christmas where they show holiday classics for 25 days, and Bravo TV has constantly been streaming fan favorite movies as well for cozy nights in.

4. Decorating or if you're really feeling up to it, even baking a gingerbread house!

5. Learn new recipes. If we're being honest, I'm not much of a chef, but with all of this free time, I've learned how to make home made recipes and tested a few of my own. Cooking for yourself means it's okay if you burn things and it's basically an experiment.

6. Reading! Not only do I burn and eat a lot of food, I love reading about food. I got into Food Whore by Jessica Tom and it's pretty engaging, for food bloggers and lovers especially.

7. Making your New Years Resolutions. I know you all have them, whether you decide to post them on your wall for everyone to see like every parent ever, or you decide to keep a mental note of them, it's a great way to keep a positive outlook on your future.

8. Online shopping for those post-holiday sales! Nothing's better than sitting all comfy in your bed with a cup of coffee and clicking for a new wardrobe for the New Year.

9. Get a haircut. New Year new you right? Treat yourself!

10. Speaking of treating yourself... Spas are AMAZING! It's time to relax and sit back, and what better way than facials and massages?

Hopefully I helped your cabin fever for those days where you just feel like the there's so much going on around you, but just nothing exciting happening for you.

P.S. Discount candy canes taste just as good they did before Christmas...

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
