If someone is traveling to a different city or state, they will want to know what kind of stuff there is to do. Something that's fun. Something that could be great for families. I have lived in Montgomery, Alabama my whole life so I know what activities are available. A lot of people that live here, including me sometimes, have said that there is nothing to do and that living here is quite boring. I have since taken a step back and realize that there actually is a lot of different things to do here. So, if you ever find yourself in the area, don't hesitate to do any or all of the activities I mention.
1. Downtown Montgomery
There are a bunch of great restaurants and other attraction type things in downtown Montgomery. Some of the best restaurants to me are Central, Saza, Chris' Hot Dogs, Midtown Pizza Kitchen, Scott Street Deli, and Cucos Mexican Cafe. The food is great and there is a lot of variety in this part of town. Moving on from food, The Davis Theater for the Performing Arts is always having some type of show or performance. The shows they put on are pretty awesome if I do say so myself.
2. Alabama Shakespeare Festival
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival always has a play or show going. For instance, this year they have done "Cinderella" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and they will do "Beauty and the Beast" in July. The staff and actors and actresses are such great, genuine people. Besides the shows and plays, the area is great for walking, bringing your pets, and picnics. I could easily waste a day or an afternoon here. If you're looking for an outside area that you could relax in, this is it.
3. Shopping
I think the most popular shopping area in Montgomery is Eastchase. Some of the stores there are Banana Republic, Bath and Body Works, Books a Million, Dillard's, DSW, Kinnucan's, Pandora, Ross, Rue21, Versona, Victoria's Secret, and Yankee Candle. No matter what you are looking for, there is probably a store that has it.
4. Other
The movie theater, the library, or a place like Rockin' Jump are also great options. While the movie theater and library are self-explanatory, Rockin' Jump may be something unfamiliar to you. Rockin' Jump is an indoor trampoline park. It is a lot of fun to go to and it gives you the chance to act like a child again. If you like to bowl, we also have two main bowling alleys that are both great in their own right. Bama Lanes is smaller and has, in my opinion, a more small, intimate atmosphere. It is also older. Brunswick Zone is bigger and more family oriented. This one, as far as I know, is the one most commonly used for things like birthday parties and bowling leagues. No matter which one you choose, a great time will be had.
As boring as it may seem, Montgomery can be fun and there is stuff to do and see here. We also have some great food. So, if you ever find yourself coming through Montgomery, whether on a short or long stay, consider trying some of the stuff I mentioned. If you have lived here for your whole life like I have, maybe you've discovered something new to do. Montgomery is not as boring as you may think.
