There is no right or wrong way to deal with things such events as the recent shootings in the news, and this article is not intended to offend or start any type of conflict. However, I hope to give insight on how to view the recent news tragedies from a different perspective.
It seems as if the world is being bombarded with horrible news of violence, death, and hatred. In recent news, we heard of the Orlando shooting, the shooting of Alton Sterling, the Dallas police shooting, and now the attacks on Nice, France. The recent shootings and attacks are absolutely tragic. Hearing those types of stories in the news is depressing. It's heartbreaking and it makes us feel scared and small. So much has happened, and it has happened so fast. Lives were lost, families and friends were torn apart and communities were shattered. With stories like these, it's easy to assume that the world is bad or full of bad people, but we can't give up our hope and strength. Most importantly, we have to hold on to our faith in humanity.
Now is not the time to turn on one another. In fact, now we must hold on to each other more than ever. These attacks show us that nothing in life is guaranteed and that every day should be treated as a blessing. Tell everyone who you know how much you love and cherish them. Call up a relative you don't often speak to. Go out of your way to visit someone. Spend your time lifting each other up. Don't start losing hope, don't start assuming everyone is a bad person, don't turn your back on each other, and don't let the recent actions of a few bad seeds change the way you view the world.
What we can do and what we should do is pray, love and console one another as a family. Even if we're not related, this world is one giant family. Unified through an abundance of love, we will make it through together.
