As I struggle to make sense of these past two days, I struggle with a topic to write. Someone said in my class said it's making us realize that this is an open wound that we haven't been paying attention, but yet, that doesn't make any of us comfortable. We're in fear, we are protesting already, and we've been continuing to protest. We're only in Day Three of the new era, and our world has nothing good to report. I'm going to let you know this, I do not hate anybody. I could never hate anyone. I do, however, dislike how our country turned out to be. I dislike the fact that there was a shadow that was overcast on the 9th of November. Some might say differently, but I felt there was a shadow that was overcast on that day.
As a writer and a journalist, I have a certain position and a line that I have to draw to make sure I don't cross it. My hands aren't covered in blood. I'm only a senior in college, and I'm terrified of entering a world where my voice wouldn't be heard or watching a dear friend of mine be pulled and taken away from their loved ones. However, there is a part of me, ready to fight, let my voice to be heard and do my part as a citizen of this country. Even everyone on social media has been posting this quote from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
"THE MINISTRY HAS FALLEN. SCRIMGEOUR IS DEAD. THEY ARE COMING."
There are other Harry Potter quotes people have been turning towards during this time in our nation's history.
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” — Dumbledore.
We have two months to figure out how we're going to survive these next four years and keep having our voices be heard. For now, I'm going to leave you something that Supergirl said last season:
"When facing an attack like this, it’s easy to feel hopeless. We retreat, we lose our strength, lose our self. I know. I lost everything when I was young. When I first landed on this planet, I was sad and alone. But I found out that there is so much love in this world out there for the taking, and you, the people of National City, you helped me. You let me be who I’m meant to be. You gave me back to myself. You made me stronger than I ever thought possible, and I love you for that. Now, in each and every one of you, there is a light, a spirit, that cannot be snuffed out. That won’t give up. I need your help again. I need you to hope."
