What The Earth Has Taught Me

Relationships and passions are ever-changing and evolving.

What The Earth Has Taught Me
Nicole Wheat Photography

Last week I started a project that I have wanted to work on for as long as I can remember.

Inspired by the Earth and the call of nature, I am creating this project of my journey through spaces I hold sacred, places right in my backyard.

I am trying to get to know myself, my passions and my relationship better than I ever have, by learning from my Earth and home.

I constantly challenge my fears, my passions and myself for my art daily, and I want this project to be indicative of that.

The first location we used for this is one that has come to grow deeply into my world; the one place that never ceases to leave me in awe.

Every time we visit this place, it illustrates itself to us in a hundred different ways.

These dunes have taught me so much over the three trips we have made out here.

By having to illegally camp in complete darkness with no service to send a Tweet or post an Instagram photo for miles, you learn a lot about yourself and your relationship.

Stepping out of the car to a new moon’s sky where you can see the milky way with your naked eye, or the unbelievable amount of stars you can see even when there is a full moon; it's something that, living in Orange County, you would never imagine possible.

Here, I have found that no matter how many times you go somewhere, there will always be different obstacles and you never stop learning.

The same goes in my life and my relationship.

Whether it be a new or full moon, or it being impossible to sleep because it's thirty degrees and windy or so hot that the tent feels like a magnifying glass, you find that you can deal with it in a new and, most of the time, completely unexpected way.

The most important thing to realize is that your life and relationships are ever-changing and evolving.

Discover a place that does the same for you.

From sea to shining sea, the United States was uniquely positioned for an incredible Aurora Borealis display on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, going into Friday, Oct. 11.

It was the second time this year after an historic geomagnetic storm in May 2024. Those Northern Lights were visible in Europe and North America, just like this latest rendition.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

1. It's easy to be fooled by shiny things.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
