Thanksgiving Break: that dreaded, but impatiently awaited time of the year. It's a much-needed break from the daily life of college, and although everyone's experience is a little different, there are a couple of things that most people will endure in a few weeks.
Pumpkin Pie and Politics
Unless all the family members who have gathered shared the same political views (this is very rare, though), the 2016 Election will be brought onto the dinner table and mixed in with everything else. For the sake of not pissing off your parents by arguing with your racist uncle, just suck it up and know that you may not have to see these people for another year. Or, go for it and argue! They might not even expect it. Talk about a November surprise.
Raspberry Dessert and Love
There will ALWAYS be at least one person at the table who will ask you about your love life. Sometimes we lie about the details because we don't want questions or sometimes we are just annoyed that they care more than we do. Regardless, your love life is not a game show and you deserve to have some privacy. You can also try to switch it around on them - "My love life is fine, but how's YOURS? Tell us everything."
Scones and School
Of course, grades will be brought up. Some family members will try to show off their kids in the most passive-aggressive way ever, while some kids will just be bragging by themselves. Regardless, break is a time to get away from school a little bit mentally, if at all possible.
Homework...
I did not want to associate any food item with homework because Thanksgiving break should be a break from school. However, as college students know, there will be essays, exams, etc. due RIGHT after break ends. Such a cruel move by teachers. Definitely should be illegal. You will for sure complain about school during break.
