As the holiday season rapidly approaches, I am reflecting on this past year. Like every other year, it goes by way too fast. This year has been full of memories (good and bad), new friendships and new beginnings. What better way to kick off the holiday season than to think about what you're thankful for?
First and foremost, I am thankful for my family. Without them, I would not be here (literally). They always have my back, even when I don't think I need them. I am so lucky to have parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and siblings that are just a phone call or text away. There are times where we butt heads and don't get along, that's for sure. At the end of the day, they are my family. They are all I have. I would not be who I am without them.
Secondly, I am thankful for my boyfriend. You have put up with me for almost an entire year now! You deserve a medal, or some type of award so you know how much you really are appreciated. You took care of me when I got my wisdom teeth out, you constantly deal with my bad moods, and (most importantly) you buy me food. Words cannot describe how unbelievably in love with you I am, I am grateful for you each and every single day. I also cant believe you agreed to move in together, because you know how messy and non-domestic I am :)
My friends. We may not talk all the time, I may get on your nerves and you may get on mine. But you are still my friends and I would do absolutely anything for you. Thank you for sticking by me through all of the crap.
The opportunities I have been given. There are many things that happened to me this year that I will never forget. I got to experience Europe. Europe was the most amazing experience of my life, one that I will never forget. (Special thanks to my parents for paying for it, you guys are amazing!) Visiting London, Paris and Amsterdam was absolutely amazing, words cannot even describe it. I cant wait to go back.
The ability to wake up every morning. This is a big one for me. I am lucky to wake up every day, happy and healthy. Some people may not be so lucky. My mom has always told me, "There are others out there who are worse off than you." She is so right (but don't tell her I said that). I may complain about being a broke college kid and being extremely busy with all of my jobs, school, and extracurriculars. But some people don't get those amazing opportunities. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to receive a quality education, exercise my freedoms and independence.
During this holiday season, while you're amongst your loved ones and eating amazing food and opening gifts, take a few moments to stop and think about how lucky you really are. If you're thankful for your family, friends, or significant others, don't be afraid to tell them. They will really appreciate it, and it will leave a lasting effect on them like they have left on you. Don't forget to pay it forward, always stay humble, always be kind.
