What Summer Means in the Tri-State Area
The Green Program

Summer's making its way to the east coast in just a few weeks. With the tri-state area getting all types of weather, summer brings a unique mix of feelings.

1. It comes out of nowhere

Summer in the tri-states parades as spring for a couple of months in April and sometimes waits until June, but, in most years, it comes out of nowhere and shows up in mid to late May. 70° one day can quickly turn into 90° with no warning. In the event that summer holds off until June, it usually hangs around, hot and imposing until October.

2. Barbecues

As soon as the snow melts, tri-staters are quick to pull out the grill. Winter can be brutal in the tri-states.

3. Lack of clothing

Because of winter being so bitter, sometimes, tri-staters get a little overzealous and decide not to wear clothes. Other times, it's so hot, some tri-staters FORGET to wear clothes. (Not judging, just observing)

4. Excited Drivers

These are the people who think it's perfectly fine to zip through traffic with their tops down, leaving their cares in the winter. With the road finally being fixed after being destroyed by rock salt, some people get excited about driving without feeling like they're trying to put their signature on a running washer machine.

5. Quality time

This is one of the best parts of summer. Summer means "get-togethers" just because the weather's nice. There's also the 4th of July to name a few holidays and the ever-popular summer weddings, not to forget prom and graduation season.

6. No homework

Being out of school means no professors/teachers to answer to, no papers to turn in and no tests to study for...unless you take summer classes, in which case, you have my sympathy and understanding.

7. Boredom

For some people, summer shifts their schedule tremendously and can leave them with very little to do. The good news is, we, as humans, have a way of adjusting.

8. Rain...lots of rain

The tri-states gets quite a few wet summers. PA, in particular, specializes in wind and rain, sometimes throwing in a tornado or two.

9. Noreasters

A noreaster is the North East's version of a hurricane. It has all of the key parts of a hurricane such as heavy rain, strong winds, hail and wonder at the amazingly beautiful sky following a noreaster.

10. Rita's

This might be the best part! Rita's opens up and the lines stretch down the streets. There's nothing better than Rita's on a hot day or a warm, summer night.

Happy summer, Tri-state area! We've waited a long time for it and it's almost here!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
