What does it really mean to succeed?
Success. Such a finite word.
But what does that word mean to you?
Poet Ralph Waldo Emerson once said ,“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.”
In the world that we live in success is measured by preconceived notions. Preconceived notions that have been engraved by the road to conformity. The definition of success has been held within the parameters of materialistic measures rather than moralistic.
Success. It’s a funny thing. Because it’s ironic how success should be determined for yourself, yet we only let the notion of society determine success. I think its time to take a step back and take on your own definition of it.
I think what Emerson was trying to say, is that the things that mean something to you are what makes you successful. The things that anchor you and cause you to strive on are the mark of your success, not our material possessions.
Success. Tell me. What does that word mean to you?
Is it having someone to call when you’re having a difficult day? Is it being able to be a role model to a younger sibling or cousin? Is it being able to volunteer your time to a cause dear to your heart?
Success. It all depends on how you want it to be defined.
