5 Things We Should All Learn From Our Dog

A list of reasons to learn, live, and love like a dog.

I am one of those people that would rather stay at home with my dog on a Friday night then at the club. They give the best cuddles, have the best shoulders to cry on, and are the best friends. As much as we love our furry friends, there is so much that we should learn from them.

1. Dogs give love with little to no expectations of getting it back...

Selfless love is the truest form of love. Being like a dog and loving another simply because they have a soul and they deserve to be shown love and respect is how we should treat everyone. Surely, if you give out love then you will in some shape or form get it back. Just focus on how you treat others and those vibes will ricochet.

2. ...dogs love unconditionally and relentlessly.

Be like a dog and understand that we don't always have the best of days. That sometimes we take it out on each other and it is during those times that we should pick each other up, not fire back.

You can't always control how others treat you, but you are completely in control of how you treat others. Do your part to be a ray of sunshine and a breath of fresh air in the lives of others.

3. Dogs find happiness in the little things.

Be like a dog and chew on an old stinky shoe instead of a monster bone...

You know what I mean. Don't get lost in materials and forget your own true passions. It is okay to not have the best of everything. After all, money cannot buy the best things in life (and clearly dogs know this best).

4. Dogs are quirky, silly, and unapologetically themselves.

The quirkier the dog, the better. So be like a dog and be yourself. Make jokes even if no one laughs (but you). Read your nerdy books in public. Talk to people that make you nervous and shy. Do things that make you uncomfortable. Put yourself out there. If we can learn anything from a dog, it would be that it is worth it.

5. They feel bad for wrongdoings, even before they get caught.

We have all seen the adorable guilty-faced doggies that have had an accident or damaged furniture. In fact, when my dog would accidentally go on the floor, he would punish himself without us knowing by having a "time-out" in the box. So whenever we found him in his box for no apparent reason, we knew to watch our step. Be like a dog and be sorry. Be remorseful and let others know.

Dogs are innocent and happy. Choose to be like them. Love others and love yourself. Revel in the small things and make the best out of any situation. Just love like a dog and imagine another world.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
